Kids Party Recipes &  Party Food

A party isn’t a party without food.  Many of us get stuck once we get past cup cakes and fairy bread, whilst others may simply be looking for a healthy alternative.

On this page we will help make your life a little easier by sharing some recipes and party food ideas for your little one’s big day.
Kids Party Food Recipes and Food Ideas

There are plenty of classic favourites, like party pies and sausage rolls, but these days parents can get a little more creative with things like mini quiches or mini pizzas.  As fun as it is for kids to have a whole day or eating ‘naughty’ food, try to provide a few healthy options to keep their energy up, and to give them a bit of balance.

No one wants an overtired and sugar laden child returned to them at the end of the day.
Send us your recipes and food ideas..........
Method
1. Butter 1 loaf of bread. Spread half the slices with strawberry jam, and then top each slice with remaining slices to make sandwiches.
2. Butter the remaining loaf of bread.
3. Spread half the slices with Nutella, then top with remaining slices.
4. Remove the crusts from all the sandwiches, and then cut each into 4 triangles. Lay the sandwiches on two separate platters long-edge down to form 2 long pyramids.
5. Spread the remaining butter along one side of each pyramid. Sprinkle the buttered-side of the jam sandwiches with the 100s and 1000s and the chocolate sandwiches with the chocolate sprinkles.

Mini Sausage Rolls - Makes 28

Ingredients
· 1/2 cup fresh white breadcrumbs
· 80ml (1/3 cup) milk
· 500g pork and veal or chicken and herb sausages
· 1/2 small onion, chopped
· 1 egg, plus 1 egg extra, lightly beaten
· 2 sheets frozen puff pastry, just thawed
· Sesame seeds, to sprinkle
· Tomato sauce (ketchup), to serve
Method
1. Combine breadcrumbs and milk in a bowl and set aside until milk is absorbed. Remove casings from sausages and place in a food processor with crumbs, onion and egg. Process until well combined, cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes to chill.
2. Place a sheet of pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut horizontally into two. Spoon a quarter of the mixture along the centre of each piece of pastry. Fold over a long side of pastry, brush with egg, then fold other side over to enclose, slightly overlapping in the centre, and make a long sausage shape. Repeat with remaining pastry and filling to make 4 rolls.
3. Place rolls, seam side down, on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Cover and refrigerate for 1/2 hour until firm.
4. Preheat oven to 180°C. Line a large baking sheet with non-stick baking paper. Carefully diagonally cut each roll into seven. Brush with remaining egg and place on baking sheet. Use a sharp knife to make 2 small slits on top of each roll (to prevent rolls from splitting) and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
5. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden and puffed. Serve warm with the tomato sauce.

3. Cook the frankfurts in a large saucepan of simmering water for about 5 minutes or until heated through, then remove from the pan and drain.
4. Cut slits into the top of each bread roll and brush the insides with pizza sauce. Place a frankfurt in each roll, top with basil leaves and crumble over feta.
Alphabet Pikelets – Makes 36

· 1 tsp baking powder
· 1 tbs caster sugar
· 310ml (1 1/4 cups) milk

Bat and Spider chocolate crackers – Makes 12
Ingredients
· 80g white marshmallows
· 40g unsalted butter
· 1 tablespoon caster sugar
· 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
· 2 cups cocoa puffed rice cereal
· 240g packet liquorice straps (see note)
· For 6 spiders
· 1 tube Cake Mate red writing icing
· 12 red mini M&Ms
· For 6 bats
· 1 tube Cake Mate blue writing icing
· 12 blue mini M&Ms
Method
1. Lightly grease an oven tray. Place marshmallows, butter, sugar and cocoa powder in a saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring, for 2 minutes or until melted. Place rice cereal in a bowl. Add marshmallow mixture and stir to combine.
2. Make spiders: Cut twenty-four 7cm-long, thin strips from liquorice. Using damp hands, shape 1 tablespoon of crackle mixture into a 5cm round. Lay 4 liquorice strips across round, overhanging evenly on each side. Sandwich with another round of crackle mixture. Use icing to secure M&Ms as eyes. Place on prepared tray. Repeat with remaining crackle mixture, liquorice strips, icing and M&Ms to make 5 more spiders.
3. Make bats: Using template as a guide cut twelve 7cm-long 'wings' from liquorice. Using damp hands shape 2 tablespoons of crackle mixture into an 8cm-long oval. Place tips of liquorice wings on long sides. Sandwich with another 2 tablespoons of crackle mixture. Use icing to secure M&Ms as eyes. Place on prepared tray. Repeat with remaining crackle mixture, liquorice wings, icing and M&Ms to make 5 more bats.
4. Refrigerate spiders and bats for 1 hour or until set. Serve.
