Party Lolly Bags
A fun, new and sometimes cheaper alternative to the standard lolly bag is using cardboard party hats instead. All you need to do is turn the hats upside down and place a napkin inside. Fill the hats with lollies and tie a small thank you card to the string, thanking each child for their attendance.
Another alternatively, is Chinese noodle boxes. You can buy empty white Chinese noodle boxes, and as one of the activities for the kids, have them colour, paint or decorate the boxes with stickers. Once they dry you can fill them up will treats. This is a lovely keepsake for the day.
Another option is too buy plastic zip lock bags and some brightly coloured wrapping paper. Cut the paper to the size of the bags and place a piece inside each bag with the design facing outwards, before filling the bag with treats. You could also create personalised fronts for each bag on your computer with pictures and each child’s name. Simply design the fronts on line, print them out on coloured paper and cut to fit the bags.
Homemade Piñatas
You can buy shop made piñatas, however, if you want to make a cheap home made alternative buy a large bright coloured gift bag or box, cut out the bottom and then loosely tape it back into place. Fill the bag with small cheap toys, stickers, balloons, party poppers, crayons or lollies. Just let your imagination go.
Another way to make a home-made piñata is out of paper mache’. Start with blowing up a large balloon, then covering the balloon with layers of newspapers dipped into glue. Once you have a few layers, use plain white paper (to paint or colour later) or use old pieces of gift wrap.
Let the paper dry, and then use a pin to pop the balloon. Cut a small opening in the ball and fill with small cheap toys, stickers, balloons, party poppers, crayons or lollies. Once filled add one more layer of paper and allow to dry. Remember to also tape a piece of string to the top of the ball so that you can hang it up.
Another way to use the paper mache’ piñata is to not add the string and use it as a ball instead. The kids can sit in a circle and roll or throw it back and forth, if the ball holds strong after a while you can try all standing up and kicking it back and forth.
Stop messy ice cream cones
To stop ice cream from dripping out of the bottom of the cones, add a small marshmallow to the base of the cone before adding the ice-cream.
