Thank you’s, visitors and keepsakes

Whether you were given hand me downs, were showered in gifts, or just wanted to send out some birth announcements, thanking and advising your friends about your babies birth, can be a fun, or big and busy job.

On top of your birth announcements, you will also need to deal with ongoing, planned and unplanned visitors, most showing up just as you got the baby to sleep.

And as time passes you will want to start putting together your babies keepsakes.  For all these topics keep reading below.......
The 52 week collage

The idea here is to take a photo of your baby each week, on the same day, in the same place, and if possible in the same pose.

You will then be able to make up an album which shows how your baby has grown each week.  It looks great, and is worth the effort
Thank you Cards
Every time you receive a gift or card try right the name of the gift on the back of the card, and jot down the person’s name in a notebook, so when it comes time to write the cards you have a head start.

Also try and update your mailing list with family and friends home addresses before you go to the hospital.  There is nothing worse than having all your cards written up but not having the addresses to send them too.  Also make sure you have a post code, or phone book with postcodes, in the house prior to going to hospital, this will also save time later.
Birth Announcements
You can do this online, via email, standard card or photo card.  Many companies now offer birth announcements in the form of a printed card which includes a photo of your baby.  Prices range from around 85 cents each up to a couple of dollars so shop around.

This might be another one of those things that you look into before the baby is born.  If you choose the company, it will be only a matter of uploading the photo and organising the prints.  Also make a list of people who you want to send an announcement too, and pre-address and stamp some envelopes, it will save you heaps of time later on.
Visitors
Keepsakes
Invited or uninvited, visitors will start almost as soon as you announce the birth of your child.  Having a baby is exhausting work, so don’t feel pressured into having too many visitors to early.  Tell people you want a break, set visiting times, or put up the ‘do not disturb we are sleeping’ sign on your hospital door.  And don’t forget to take your phone off the hook or have your calls put on hold, when you both need a sleep.
Try to bring home as much as you can from the hospital.  For example the chart from your babies crib.  The name anklet that was clipped to their leg when they were born.  Any other cards or memorabilia from your visit to hospital.

Buy the paper on the day your baby was born.
